Ensuring Safe Online Casino Gambling

14.03.2007

As a newcomer to the world of online casino gambling, it is only natural that you may be a little hesitant of taking the leap and start gambling for real money on the internet.

After all, haven’t you heard horror stories of shady entities posing as online casino sites and then cleaning out the innocent gambler’s bank account? Thankfully, these days, stories such as those are few and far between and it is important to remember one thing: Online casino sites are businesses in every sense of the word and very few (if any) of them would risk their names and reputations to scam a few hundred dollars off their clients.

Today, online gamblers are well informed and have the upper hand in the industry. For all intents and purposes, it is a buyer’s market out there and gamblers are taking full advantage of this fact. With so many online gambling sites to choose from, there is no reason in the world that players should settle for second best, and that applies to safety matters as well. Today’s players are savvy enough to know which sites to avoid and what to look out for in a site. They know how to recognize sites that take their personal security and safety first and will check out these precautions for themselves.

However ‘virtual’ online casinos make seem, a business still remains a business. If an online casino obtains a bad reputation for poor payout practices, scams, fraud or even spam, online gamblers will soon have their say on the matter. Bad reviews spread like wildfire on the internet and millions of gamblers read what their peers have to say on message boards and through gambling portals. No good online casino today will risk having something bad said about its site or products and therefore players can – and should – rest assured that online gambling is a safe form of entertainment.

As an extra precaution, today’s gamblers actively seek out sites that belong to watchdog gambling groups and organizations such as eCOGRA (eCommerce Online Gaming Regulation and Assurance) or the Interaction Gaming Council. These organizations strive to bring fair and safe gambling to the consumer and will award seals of approval to sites that uphold their standards of fair gaming practice. Naturally, gamblers will seek out sites that display these seals and awards as they feel that they can trust sites that have some kind of standard to maintain.

Obviously, a good dose of common sense will go a long way in ensuring that players don’t get duped by shady sites. It is always a good idea to check out a new site’s credentials by reading its “about us” page and reading up about software providers and licensing. If in doubt, check out message boards and gambling portals to see what other players are saying. Trust your gut instincts and if you are not 100% about a site, switch to another. Thankfully, there are many fish in the proverbial sea.
