North American gambling now approaching $100 billion mark

Casino City's North American Gaming Almanac and CD, released this week by Casino City Press, reports that in 2006 gaming revenue in the U.S. grew 8.2 percent, for a total of $92.68 billion.

The Almanac contains almost 600 pages on the North American gaming market, including market profiles for each state and Canadian province and nearly 1 000 charts and tables. Property rankings are also included, with top properties listed by type of gaming activity and property, and number of gaming positions, machines, table games, and hotel rooms.

Across the U.S. and Canada:

* Casino and card room gaming accounted for 48 percent of total North American gaming revenue, lotteries for 24 percent, and tribal gaming for almost 22 percent.

* The largest inflation-adjusted growth, an increase of 7.31 percent, was seen in tribal gaming.

* Revenue from lotteries grew by 4.91 percent and casino and card room gaming by 5.56 percent.

* Both charitable gaming and race/sports wagering declined in 2006.
