188Bet exits German internet gambling market

News on 5 Jul 2012

Numerous internet sports betting information sites are advising their members that the UK online betting company 188bet has withdrawn from the German market, citing recent legislative developments that require operators to obtain a German gambling licence – something in very restricted numbers in the EU member nation.

With effect from July 4, no German players will be accepted at 188bet, despite doubts about the constitutionality and EU legality of recent German treaty and legislative moves

188bet has undertaken to honour all pending bets and account balances as at midnight on July 4, and players will be reimbursed as their accounts are shut down. The plan is to ensure all German accounts are closed by July 18.
