Swedish government reacts to E.C. court referral

The European Commission’s announcement Thursday that Sweden is among the member states it has referred to the European Court of Justice for infringing EU laws in its online gambling enterprises (see previous  report) appears to have touched a Swedish government nerve.

On Friday the Swedish Minister for Public Administration, Ardalan Shekarabi, revealed that plans were in hand to accelerate the country’s new (and possibly less monopolistic) licensing system.

The Minister confirmed that government was studying the referral issue in advance of putting its plan into motion.
