UK bookmakers agree to cut advertising before 9pm

News on 2 Oct 2014

The Senet Group comprising William Hill, Ladbrokes, Paddy Power and Coral are standing by their recently launched voluntary self-regulated responsible advertising collaboration by committing to a voluntary ban on free bets and free money advertising on television before 21h00.

The commitment follows concerns voiced by the English Premier League (EPL) regarding the volume of such advertising and the effect the advertising may have on young people who watch live football on television.  The EPL fears the growth in live-betting advertising may increase corruption.  It also wants to ensure the EPL brand remains in high regard and is isolated from the activities of betting firms.
