Unibet’s Swedish tennis sponsorship stands despite regulator’s objections

Online gambling group Unibet’s arena sponsorship of the Stockholm Open tennis tournament will continue this Saturday (October 12) despite the unsuccessful efforts of the Swedish Gambling Board to stop it on illegal advertising grounds.

The injunction failed due to a lack of regulatory support for the Board’s claims.

The Stockholm Open is Sweden’s largest and most prestigious tournament played in the Royal Tennis Hall in Stockholm. Unibet’s partnership with the event includes promotions for tickets and streaming the games live on Unibet websites.

Among the aces competing in this year’s competition is Wimbledon semifinalist Jerzy Janowicz, Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, ranked 28th in the world, and the world number four, David Ferrer.

Jonas Bjorkman, the marketing director for the Stockholm Open said earlier this month that the organisers were pleased with the Unibet collaboration, and welcomed the company as a new sponsor whose involvement would benefit everyone involved.
