Thai police report success in anti-gambling operations

Thailand’s Police Chief Pol. Gen. Patcharawat Wongsuwan told the National News Bureau this week that he estimated that over 70 percent of illegal online and live gambling in the country’s capital Bangkok has been neutralised in a concentrated drive by his officers.
Senior police officers have pressured their subordinates at Bangkok police stations to crack down hard on all illegal gambling, using local intelligence and police raids.  Local commanders were told that there could be repercussions for those stations that fail to deal decisively with gambling in their areas.
To ensure compliance, the police chief advised that he had tasked deputy Pol. Gen. Thanee Somboonsup with ensuring that all stations act in line with the new command.
The police chief also disclosed that he would personally be inspecting the work of Bangkok police stations after a new order that would give more power to station chiefs took effect.
