Delaware sportsbetting recommended

News on 10 Dec 2008

There are moves afoot in the state of Delaware to legalise sports wagering in the state, according to a report this week from Associated Press.  The article claims that with the General Assembly preparing to convene next month, legalised sports wagering remains a priority for Delaware’s gambling industry.
Sport betting is at the top of a list of recommendations the state Video Lottery Advisory Council will submit to government officials in January, AP reports.
Ed Sutor, president and chief executive officer of the major horse racing group Dover Downs Inc. told Associated Press earlier this week that with the state economy in trouble and new slot machine competition in Pennsylvania and Maryland, sports betting could give Delaware a much needed boost. Council members will additionally push for permission to offer table games, which Sutor said could generate new revenue as well as hundreds of jobs for Delaware’s gambling industry.
The council will submit its recommendations to the state finance department in mid-January.
