Argentina’s lotteries to consider online gambling regulations

The rather grand-sounding trade body for Argentina’s state lotteries, the Asociación de Loterías, Quinielas y Casinos Estatales (ALEA) has reportedly set up a research and advisory group to make recommendations regarding the regulation of online gambling in the South American nation.

ALEA, which boasts twenty three member lotteries, wants to establish the role of internet gambling in Argentina and develop the most appropriate system of regulation should the pastime be accepted.

A spokesman said this week that such a system was necessary to prevent offshore online gambling operators from offering their services to Argentinians, prospering from their participation without paying Argentine taxes.
