India’s gambling “royalty” arrested

News on 4 Jul 2018

Mumbai police in the cybercrime unit have scored an important coup, reporting the arrest of nine individuals wanted in connection with illegal online gambling, among them Ramesh Chaurasia and his son Anchal, directors of Game King India Pvt Ltd, which allegedly operates betting websites gamekingindia.com and planetgonline.com.

Police claim that the Chaurasias are linked to a major network of gambling facilities across India which generate annual revenues around 200 crore (approximately US$ 32 million)

The duo are the subjects of a number of police enquiries now and in the past but have managed to stay one jump ahead of the police, moving around the country to evade detection, according to a Times of India report.

The father and son are being kept in custody until July 5.
