WeChat proxy betting ring bust

Macau press agencies are reporting another WeChat proxy betting ring bust which allegedly operated from an unidentified Cotai Casino VIP room.

Macau Judiciary Police reportedly arrested 13 Chinese and four Macau men in connection with the operation. The men are accused of filming live VIP baccarat games which were broadcast to a network of off-premise gamblers via WeChat.

The bust follows another in April, where seven Chinese men were arrested for running a similar operation.

Authorities believe the WeChat groups, comprising 40 to 50 gamblers at any one time, generated over HKD 10 million (US$1.3 million) during the year it had been in operation.
