Syracuse, NY police raided a second cybercafe this week under the state’s relatively new laws against online internet cafe sweepstakes gambling (see previous report).

A North Carolina man in charge of the cybercafe, Chan Ji Byung (51), was arrested in the midday raid and charged with illegal gambling activities, and the local sheriff’s office reported 55 computers and other evidence was seized by the police raiding party.

Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office detectives used an online gambling search warrant in the action against News Star Entertainment, at 3014 Erie Blvd. East, in Syracuse.

The raid was mounted after months of investigation and in collaboration with the Onondaga County District Attorney’s Office, U.S. Marshals and the state police, the sheriff’s office said.

Byung was arraigned in Syracuse City Criminal Court and granted pretrial release.
