Sports betting bill approved by Washington DC council

The approval of an emergency measure by the Washington D.C. Council earlier this week enables existing D.C. lottery provider Intralot to operate sports betting in the district without undergoing a competitive bidding process, a controversial decision that effectively locks out competitors IGT and Scientific Games both of whom expressed an interest in tendering for the business.
