Unions to appeal Trump Taj Mahal bankruptcy ruling

News on 24 Oct 2014

A casino worker’s union fighting against the Trump Taj Mahal termination of collectively agreed benefits in order to avoid bankruptcy has launched an appeal against a court’s decision last week to allow the termination (see previous reports).

A union legal spokesman revealed Thursday that the appeal would be lodged in a Delaware federal district court amid calls for a workers’ picket of the casino Friday.

The termination is a last-ditch plan by the casino to avoid bankruptcy and save around 3,000 jobs, reports the Associated Press news agency, although the casino’s principal debt holder, billionaire financier Carl Icahn, has voiced the opinion that a closure is almost inevitable.
