Aussies crackdown on gambling advertising

News on 2 Mar 2015

Tighter new gambling advertising regulations have been proposed by the South Australia provincial government, with provisions that extend to the sale of toys with themes or appearance that suggest gambling.

Consumers Minister Gail Gago says the draft regulations extend to the sale of toy poker, mini roulette wheels and blackjack products, where store owners will be required to place signs on shelves stating that such items are not recommended for children.

“These seemingly innocent games could lead to gambling more broadly,” Gago said on Monday. “This government will not sit back and watch children become gambling addicts.”
