PlayScan merges with Svenska Spel

News on 6 Jul 2015

PlayScan, Svenska Spel’s responsible gambling subsidiary, is to be absorbed back into the company and its PlayScan product will no longer be made available for commercial purchase.

Historically, Playscan AB has marketed and developed software for responsible gaming for the regulated industry and counts Svenska Spel, France’s La Francaise des Jeux, Sweden’s Miljonlotteriet, Finland’s Ray and the Canada-based Atlantic Lottery as PlayScan customers.

Svenska Spel said the demand for an off-the-shelf solution was low with operators seeking their own products.  Even so, the company said it was committed to continuing the use and further development of the tool in-house while continuing to service its existing PlayScan clients.

Playscan AB was acquired during the first quarter of 2010 as part of Svenska Spel’s long-term responsible gaming programme.  Its responsible gambling tool is the result of years of development and research undertaken in close cooperation with Spelinstitutet, an organisation that provides treatment for gaming addiction.

“We will now continue to improve the tool together with Svenska Spel and all our other clients,” Andreas Holmström, chief executive officer of Playscan AB said.

“We are also open for new forms of collaboration with the industry and the research community. We will carry on with educating operators, promote a mutual exchange of knowledge and share best practices on how to prevent problem gambling, throughout the industry.”

Lennart Käll, chief executive officer of Svenska Spel added: “Playscan is a core component of our responsible gambling strategy, and will remain so. I’m very proud to see how the product has evolved – and the hard work done by the dedicated team behind it. It will be exciting to follow its future development.”
