Bulgaria to tax all gambling at 10 percent

News on 28 Mar 2010

The Bulgarian publication Novinite reports that negotiations have been successfully concluded to base gambling tax at an across-the-board rate of 10 percent in the Eastern European country.
The Executive Director of Bulgaria’s National Revenue Agency (NAP), Krasimir Stefanov, announced that the Tripartite Cooperation Council has adopted the proposed 10 percent tax on all gambling following discussions between the Council of Employers, unions and government representatives in Sofia.
The tax will be levied on all winnings from bets, Stefanov stated Saturday. He added that the tax could add BGN 150 million to the budget annually.
The tax concept was reportedly suggested by the Finance Ministry and will affect all forms of gambling in Bulgaria, including the sports totalisator, Eurofootball and bingo games.
