Former Betfair CTO joins UK online directory firm

The man widely recognised for implementing much of Betfair’s complex computer-based technology, former chief technical officer Rory Devine, has been appointed as the new UK chief technology officer (CTO) at Yell, the online directories firm.
Devine was voted the 2007’s Computing IT’s Leader of the Year award and will be responsible for the development of Yell’s internal IT systems and web-based technologies supporting customer and product strategies.
He will report directly to Yell CEO John Condron and join Yell executive management group. Phil Ives, Yell’s UK head of information services and Doug Ray, director of new media technology, will both report to the new CTO.
“We’re delighted to welcome Rorie to Yell,” said Condron. “His appointment reflects the vital importance of technology for our growth plans.”
Since leaving Betfair in May 2008, Devine has worked for ntl: Premium TV and provided consultancy services to the major online gambling group Bwin.
“The Yell group has an impressive record for developing successful products and services and I’m excited to be supporting its growth with a robust technology strategy,” Devine said of his new appointment.
