April Fools prank has affiliates worried

In case you hadn’t remembered, today is April Fool’s Day and a good time to look at articles with cynical and cautious eyes.

One of the better pranks which had affiliate marketers concerned early in the day was what appeared to be a news item posted on some forums, reporting that the US Department of Justice had unsealed an indictment against 3 online casino affiliates for promoting unregulated sites taking North American customers.

The article even mentioned fictitious portals as the victims of the enforcement strike, giving the article a look of authenticity.

There was a link, allegedly to the indictment, which of course affiliates and other interested parties felt compelled to click….it led them with huge relief to a “gotcha” graphic!
