bwin.party will do its own thing on social gaming

One of the more interesting nuggets of information to emerge from the post-results press conference with Bwin.Party execs this week was the giant betting group’s strategy for involvement in the burgeoning field of social network gambling.

Joint chief exec Norbert Teufelberger told reporters that following initial doubts that the sector would take off, the group had realised it presented important opportunities and embarked on an investigation into the possibilities of either partnerships or acquisitions of companies already established in the field.

This initiative did not turn up anything that was acceptable to the company, and Bwin.Party management therefore decided to do its own thing, and a new unit dedicated to developing product and content has been formed.

Given the talent and resources available to this major company, the social gaming sector could be in for a major boost in the not too distant future.
