Latest gambling participation stats from the UK

The UK Gambling Commission‘s latest gambling participation review conducted by ICM Research over the four quarters ended 31 March 2014 shows that online wagering actually declined year-on-year by a percentage point.

The main gambling channel for Brits remained the National Lottery (41 percent of respondents), although there has been a y-o-y 3 percent decrease in the number of players wagering.

In a general gambling sense over the four week survey period, 56 percent of respondents said they had gambled. Breaking this sample down by gender, 61 percent were male and 51 percent female.

Of the 56 percent of respondents who said they had gambled in the preceding four weeks, just 16 percent said their gambling activity had been online, representing a decline of 1 percent year-on-year, Again broken down by gender, this small percentage of virtual punters was predominantly male (21 percent and female (11 percent).

Interestingly, only 17 percent of respondents said they had gambled both online and in land based facilities.

The overwhelming majority of UK respondents (71 percent) continue to prefer land-based retail gambling shops or bookie windows when it comes to placing their bets.
