Lotteriinspektionen highlights growth of illegal market

A report from the Swedish gambling authority, Lotteriinspektionen, identifies a 57 percent growth in unlicensed operators’ business in the Swedish market reaching SEK 5,100 million (2012: SEK 3,240 million) in 2016.

In contrast, Lotteriinspektionen said Swedish licensees had reporting a decrease in revenue to SEK 17,120 million (2012: SEK 17,260 million), despite overall market growth.

Growth in online predictably continues with online accounting for 43 percent of total turnover in the Swedish market during the first quarter 2017 (Q1/2016: 39 percent, Q1/2015: 38 percent and Q1/2014: 35 percent).
