Malaysian authorities conduct multiple raids on illegal gambling

Malaysian Police have conducted a blitz on illegal gambling, conducting 97 raids since February 5, 2018.

160 people have been arrested and charged with various charges including operating an illegal character lottery (4D), online gambling, operating a gaming house and gaming in a public place.

“Fifty-nine raids were conducted at counters selling illegal 4D in 15 districts which resulted in the arrests of 74 individuals and seizure of cash amounting to RM20,501 along with numerous gambling paraphernalia,” Police said during a press briefing.

Efforts to eradicate online gambling continued with raids conducted at 24-hour convenience stores and coffee shops offering reload services to online gamblers, State CID chief Datuk Dev Kumar revealed.

Twenty-nine raids across ten districts saw the arrest of 30 operators and the confiscation of 27 mobile devices and RM6,299 in cash.
