Nigerians bust Serbian for illegal online sports betting

Nigerian authorities have been clamping down on illegal online gambling operators in a drive that began with the new year, reports the Vanguard newspaper.

Among those arrested by officials acting on the directions of the Lagos State Lotteries Board, was Serbian national Nenad Inkovic, who faces charges of operating an illegal, unlicensed internet sports betting enterprise based in Lagos. He was granted bail, while his international passport has been seized until his trial has been finalised.

Two other illegal sports bet operators and nine public online lottery operators were also arrested and currently await trial in the drive against unlicensed operators.

Lanre Gbajabiamila, CEO of the Lagos State Lotteries Board said the illegal activities were a breach of Section 43 (1) (b) of the Lagos State Lotteries Law, and that his organised would continue to prosecute unlicensed operators.
