Paddy Power’s head of finance for online, Shane Doherty, will take responsibility for the growth of profitability and market share of the company’s e-gaming and sportsbook channels in his new appointment as chief of PaddyPower.com.

Reporting to managing director Peter O’Donovan, the position has been vacant since May 2013 when previous head Christopher Coyne was assigned to head up Competitive Intelligence at Paddy Power.

Doherty originally joined Paddy Power from Eircom, where he held the position of acting chief financial officer, group financial controller, commercial director for retail and financial controller for Eircom’s Internet business.

In related news, Altrincham-based The if agency launched Paddy Power’s new lighting fast sports betting app.

Paddy Power Messenger is a fully personalised sports betting app that offers sports betting, live text football match commentary and access to standard Paddy Power account functions.

“The new Paddy Power Messenger App is a fantastic evolution and will change the way people interact and bet with their bookmaker,”  said Ed King, group account director at The if agency.
