Remembering the biggest ever online jackpot

In an interesting PR exercise, online gambling group Betway has resurrected the almost three-year-old story of Jon Heywood, a former British army trooper who hit the headlines in October 2015 when he hit what is still the biggest ever online jackpot playing the Microgaming Mega Moolah progressive.

Heywood’s win of GBP 13,213,838.68 came just 25 minutes after opening his Betway account and starting to play on a small deposit, all the while dividing his attention between a television doccie on tanks and the computer screen.  When that screen started counting off his huge win he could hardly believe his eyes.

The win was subsequently certified as the “largest jackpot pay-out in an online slot machine game” by Guinness World Records.

Heywood kept a level head with his new-found wealth and has spent some on his family and friends, but invested most of the windfall and still goes out to work every day.
