FremantleMedia Enterprises has tasked Square Enix Ltd to develop an online slot based on the classic arcade game “Space Invaders” in a two year agreement inked this week.
Launched in 1978, the original Space Invaders game garnered a strong cult following that the online version is expected to attract.
The new online slot will target UK and European players, made available via the OpenBet and GTS platforms towards the end of this year.
Simon Murphy, Head of Gambling EMEA said, “The deal with Square Enix further demonstrates our goal to become one of the leading developers and distributors of premium branded gaming content. We are thrilled to be introducing the iconic and globally recognised Space Invaders into the gambling space for the first time.”
FremantleMedia has previously entered into similar arrangements establishing its non-TV intellectual property online with brands such as The X Factor, Britain’s Got Talent, The Price Is Right and Family Fortunes.
