Virtual sports a popular choice for New Jersey online operators

News on 28 Nov 2017

The recent announcement that Rush Street Interactive subsidiary PlaySugarHouseCasino.com is now offering virtual sports betting online (see previous report) has been followed by the news that three other New Jersey betting groups are about to follow suit.

The publication New Jersey.com reports that Golden Nugget is likely to be the first of these to go live using Inspired Gaming technology, probably in the first quarter of next year. The company is also considering the use of virtual sports in its on-premises land role, but that is in the longer term.

Golden Nugget’s virtual sports offering will include Soccer, several forms of horse racing, Indy car racing and dog racing, to be followed by Stock car racing, Cycle racing, Boxing and American football at a later date.

Thomas Winter, VP online gaming at Golden Nugget said he believes virtual sports will be particularly complimentary to Golden Nugget’s live dealer online casino games. Both products combine certain online and live elements. He estimates that virtual sports could account for three to five percent of Golden Nugget’s total online gaming revenue in its first year.

Resorts is also well advanced in a virtual sports project, again with Inspired Gaming, and with a Q1-2018 launch in mind. In addition to the online application of the genre, Resorts is working toward using the technology to offer an on-premises iGaming Lounge product.

Pala Interactive has already added virtual sports to its social casino offering, and is currently developing this project to include real-money action for its New Jersey online casino site in the near future.
