France says oui to Ukash

News on 5 Mar 2009

Ukash, an online cash payment solutions provider  that provides Internet-friendly vouchers for cash deposits, has partnered with Central Telecom to be available through Telecom’s prepaid card sold in locations across France.
The pre-paid Tonéo cards are available at over 15 000 locations, with that number set to double in coming months. Users can purchase a Tonéo card and exchange it for a Ukash voucher online or via SMS through Tonéo’s call centre. The vouchers can then be used for a variety of services, including virtual good purchases on social networks, virtual worlds, and online games. Ukash most recently began supporting PayByCash and GamesCampus.
“The new agreement with Central Telecom is another great example of our efforts to reach out to the millions of customers worldwide who favour e-cash,” Mark Chirnside, CEO of Ukash, said in a statement.
“We are seeing a growth in international demand for Ukash as more and more consumers are opting for a way to pay online using cash. This is led by two factors. First, consumers who have been financially excluded from on-line shopping in the past are demanding that they have access to that market. Second, consumers who are digitally nervous and don’t want to reveal private details are looking for alternative payments methods.”
