888´s bingo man on the move

News on 14 Aug 2009

The man who has been running 888.com’s bingo interests for the past two years, Darren Sims, has left the group for Space Bar Media, parent group of Wink Bingo.com.
Sims was the managing director of Globalcom when the bingo company was acquired by 888.com in 2007 for $34 million , He came with the company, joining 888 as VP of Bingo operations, and his tenure of office appears to have been successful, first integrating the major bingo activities of Globalcom into the 888 group, and subsequently building on it with sites like 888ladies.com.
Sims is the second senior 888.com exec to depart this year, following brand marketing expert Matt Robinson who left to join PartyGaming three months back.
It is not known whether Party Gaming’s new GBP72 million acquisition of the UK bingo giant Cashcade (which is powered by Globalcom) may have prompted the move. 888 top management is on record as saying they had the opportunity to buy Cashcade, but were of the opinion that the asking price was too high.
