Newspaper poll produces overwhelming support for licensing and regulation of online gambling.
If the authorities take cognisence of public opinion, the Cayman Isles in the Caribbean could become an interesting licensing and regulatory haven for online gambling, according to a Cayman Net News online poll which posed the question: “Do you think gambling should be legalised in Cayman to aid economic recovery?”
Readers responded heavily in favour of legalised gambling in the poll, with 606 respondents voting. 305 (50.3 percent) were in favour of legalising both casinos and a national lottery; 165 (27.2 percent) were in favour of a national lottery only; 33 (5.4 percent) supported casinos only; 101 (16.7 percent) were opposed to legalising gambling; and 2 (0.3 percent) didn’t know.
503 readers (83.0 percent) supported legalising gambling in some form: a national lottery, casinos, or both.
