Another online casino licence from Schleswig-Holstein

News on 27 Feb 2013

The German province of Schleswig Holstein was in the news again Monday with the announcement that despite its recent repeal of a liberal internet gambling act  it had issued yet another online casino licence – this one to the large German land operator Löwen Play GmbH.

The province joined 15 other German states in the highly restrictive State Treaty on Gaming just last month, and the issue of a licence to Löwen Play brings the number of such licenses to 48. 23 of these are for online casino and poker operations, with the remainder for sports betting.

Schleswig Holstein has justified the continued issues to companies in the pipeline by saying that the licenses were valid only in the province, and that the repealed act had guaranteed that all licences and applications pending had to be respected to avoid litigation.
