French regulatory body ARJEL’s Chairman, Jean-Francois Vilotte, has called on the European Council responsible for sport to push for international co-operation in protecting integrity in Sport.

Vilotte’s visit to Belgrade formed part of the 12th Conference of the European Council of Ministers where he called for the establishment of a harmonised framework in the form of a treaty that would ensure International co-operation against match-fixing and illegal sports betting as recommended by the Committee of Ministers of the European Council on September 28, 2011.

The proposed treaty would foster co-operation between regulatory authorities, sports bodies and operators and would address:

    The prevention of conflicts of interest, for players in sports competitions and between sports bodies and betting operators;

    Cohesion in the detection of fraud and anomalies in the online sports betting market during competitions;

    Formalizing a legal relationship between the betting operators and organisers of sporting events to prevent exploitation;

    The introduction of penalties targeting disreputable or questionable operators, sports bodies and athletes that would include disciplinary procedures amongst other measures.
