Atlantic City decline continues in October

October was another bad month for Atlantic City land casinos, with revenues down 4.4 percent compared with the same period last year, the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement reported Thursday.

Total gaming win was $207.2 million compared to $216.9 million in October 2013, with land casino win at $197.7 million and Internet gaming win at $9.5 million…down 7.5 percent on September 2014.

On a year-to-date basis, internet gaming broke through the $100 million level, with online poker contributing 24.3 percent of revenues and online casino operations 75.7 percent.

Online poker performance in October 2014 was down 5.7 percent at $1.97 million vs. September 2014, whilst online casino revenues declined by 7.8 percent to $7.52 million.

The Borgata and Party Poker partnership retained leadership in the state’s online gambling sector with a 34.2 percent market share, followed by Caesar’s Interactive in second place with 25.9 percent, the Tropicana (20.3 percent) and Golden Nugget and Betfair with 10.6 percent and 9 percent respectively.

The overall online vertical reported 22,571 new account signups, a 4.6 percent increase on September 2014 that brought total signups since the launch of legal intrastate online gambling in New Jersey to 479,073. The regulator points out that the average number of accounts held by an individual player can reach 6 per player, making the actual number of registered players around the 80,000 mark.
