Bad weekend for Brit bookies

News on 20 Jan 2015

British media reports Tuesday indicate that British bookmaking firms have suffered some of their heaviest losses over the weekend just past thanks to a slew of player-friendly sports betting results estimated to have cost bookies a collective GBP 40 million.

One bookie characterised the weekend as one of the blackest yet for bookies as online and retail punters on relatively small stakes harvested large sums of money.

Betting on football matches inflicted the most damage on bookmakers, with one punter scoring big-time when all fourteen of his teams won, generating tens of thousands for his household on a GBP 5 wager on a football accumulator.

Sky Bet admitted the weekend was its worst ever as the 10 most popular football teams won their respective and heavily betted matches, whilst in Europe Monaco, Villareal and Porto all won their games.
