BCLC to become white label provider

News on 30 Jun 2012

An interesting article in the Vancouver Sun revealed that the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) is looking into providing its PlayNow online betting system as a White Label product.

The company is currently in negotiations with Manitoba Lotteries for the use of its PlayNow system which if effected would make Manitoba Lotteries BCLC’s first partnership.

BCLC’s strategy would see the company not only an operator but an online gambling system vendor to other provinces’ gambling authorities with a view to developing additional revenue streams, said president and chief executive officer Michael Graydon.

“We have expertise that would be valuable to other regulated gambling jurisdictions,” Graydon said. “Launching online gaming is a major capital investment, not to mention the level of expertise that it takes to operate and manage the customer base.”

Readers will recall BCLC’s PlayNow System had serious security issues shortly after launch, exposing customer’s personal, bank and credit card information to other players.  Information and Privacy Commissioner, Elizabeth Denham, said her office was satisfied with the steps BCLC had taken to eliminate the bug at the time.
