The owners of the online gambling enterprise bet365, Denise and John Coates and their father Peter, have a combined wealth of GBP 5 billion and top the roster of digital billionaires in the UK, according to the latest Sunday Times Rich List published over the weekend.

The family rank 22nd on the list of Britain’s wealthiest families, having started their online business in the early days of internet gambling, reportedly operating from their garage. That business has grown by GBP 1 billion since the 2016 list was released, the Rich List reveals.

Bet365’s success has earned Denise Coates a Commander of the British Empire (CBE) accolade, and an Honorary Doctorate from Staffordshire University, along with making her the fifth wealthiest woman in the UK.

The Coates family has held on to a total 93 percent share in the highly successful online betting firm, eschewing suggestions that they go public with bet365 and further increase their personal fortunes.

UK press reports note that the Coates are among the top donators to charity in the UK, supporting a range of charities.
