Cambodia terrestrial casinos approved to offer online gambling

According to Khmer Times, the Cabinet of Cambodia has given online gambling approval to two terrestrial casinos owned by Senator of the Cambodian People’s Party Ly Yong Phat’s L.Y.P. Group.

A letter from the Cabinet to Interior Minister Sar Kheng, reportedly seen by Khmer Times, approves a request from Yong Phat to offer online gambling and expand the number of slot machines at his Koh Kong Resort and O’Smach Casino.

The letter, endorsed by Prime Minister Hun Sen, approves gambling on golf, horse racing, football and cock fighting.

Mey Vann of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, commenting on the approval, said: “Although the government has allowed additional gambling products and services, we still do not allow local people to gamble.”

According to Vann, the majority of casino business is generated from Thai gamblers, “Once the casino provides more services and products, it will attract more Thai’s,” he said.
