Denmark logs a record year for online gambling revenues

The Danish Gaming Authority (Spillemyndigheden) reports that 2013 has been a record year, with Danish gross online gaming revenues totalling 2.375 million Danish Kronor (DKK) after Q4-2013 delivered DKK380 million sports betting revenues; DKK260 million in online casino action; DKK 45 million in online and mobile poker; and total quarterly GGR of DKK 640 million – up 8 percent on the same quarter in 2012.

The regulator lauded the quarterly as the best yet since the liberalisation of the market on 1 January 2012.

Although online poker remained in decline and was down just over 18 percent y-o-y, sports betting and casino activity reached record levels.

For the full year online gambling reached DKK 1,385 million in betting; 990 million in casino; 195 million on poker for a total of DKK 2,375 million (FY 2012: DKK 2,045 million)

Estimated statistics for all Danish gambling indicate a year-on-year increase to DKK 7,600 million (2012: DKK 7,500 million), with per capita annual betting steady at DKK 1,700 per head of population over the age of 18 years.

The regulator notes that the figures imply that especially for betting there is a seasonal fluctuation which means that GGR is highest in Q4 and Q1 and lowest in Q3.

Regarding 2013 the GGR for betting and online casino has increased by respectively 18 percent and 14 percent in 2013.
