Dutch Gaming Authority appoints new director

The Kansspelautoriteit or Dutch Gambling Authority has named Marja Appelman (41) as its new director taking over from interim director Peter Plug as of September 23, 2013.

Appelman is an economist and is currently a partner and one of the three founders of SIRM, a quantitative and economic strategy consulting firm. Previously she worked at the Dutch Healthcare Authority, the Central Planning Bureau, Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Dutch Competition Authority.

In related news, the Kansspelautoriteit said it had submitted a letter containing issues and recommendations on the draft remote gaming bill to Secretary of Security and Justice Fred Teeven.

The document is aimed at strengthening the bill through addressing four key areas: preventing gambling-related illegality and criminality; protecting and informing consumers; combating gambling addiction; and regulating legal offers.
