Former Philippines immigration execs withdraw Lam corruption charges

News on 9 Sep 2017

Former Philippines Bureau of Immigration (BI) commissioners Al Argosino and Michael Robles, who were fired last year for their part in a P50 million corruption scandal involving Chinese online gambling workers (see previous  reports) have withdrawn their criminal complaint filed against gaming tycoon Jack Lam.

Local media reports indicate that the duo, who alleged that the Hong Kong gambling magnate was involved in the corruption of public officials and wire-tapping, have advised through their legal representative that in view of a ‘mistaken assumption or interpretation of facts and circumstances’ they wish to withdraw the accusations and have no plans to reinstate such charges in the future.

Lam still faces separate National Bureau of Investigation allegations of direct bribery, graft, and violation of Presidential Decree No. 46, which prohibits public officials from receiving gifts and also prohibits private persons from giving them.
