Philippines deports 100 Chinese online gambling workers

News on 18 Jan 2017

100 of the 1,317 allegedly illegal Chinese workers busted at the Lam online gambling centre in the Clark Freeport late last year (see previous  reports) have been ordered deported by the Philippines Bureau of Immigration (BI).

Nineteen of them left the country last weekend as the BI continued to process the deportation of the rest of the 1,317 Chinese nationals apprehended by BI operatives on November 24 at Lam’s Fontana Leisure Parks and Casino.

The Chinese nationals are facing charges of overstaying, working in violation of the limitations and conditions of their visa, and engaging in an unlicensed online gaming business.

Our readers will recall that Lam himself departed the country ahead of the busts and is facing bribery and tax evasion allegations, although he has since “sent out feelers” to settle his Philippine problems, according to the Secretary for the Department of Justice, Vitaliano Aguirre.
