Whilst online sports betting flourished in France last year, other forms of online gambling did not fare so well, reports regulator ARJEL.

Overall online poker GGR fell 13 percent to Euro 258 million, with cash games bringing in wagering of Euro 5.5 billion (down 18 percent on 2012) and tournament punters betting Euro 1.4 billion (up 5 percent on 2012).

Online stakes in horse racing dipped 1 percent to Euro 1.1 billion, although revenues were up 0.4 percent to Euro 264 million as pay-out ratios trimmed to 78.2 percent.

Sports betting was the bright spot in the statistics, with wagering up an impressive 20 percent at Euro 848 million, and revenue similarly up 19 percent to Euro 164 million. Top wager generators were, in order, football, basketball and tennis.
