More German online sports betting licenses

News on 3 Sep 2014

The Hesse Ministry of the Interior and Sport, which is responsible for issuing the twenty online sports betting licenses in Germany, has added more names to the MyBet award announced yesterday (see previous  reports), adding Bwin, Betfair, Digibet and Ladbrokes, along with other local operators, to the authorised list.

Two years on from the implementation of Germany’s State Treaty on Gaming (see previous  reports), the full complement of 20 licenses has now been issued, surprisingly with the ommission of major operators like Tipico, BetVictor and bet365.

Other German operators awarded licenses include:

Admiral Sportwetten
Albers Wettbörsen Deutschland
Bernd Hobiger
Bet90
Bet-at-home
Cash Point
German Sportwetten
IBA Entertainment
Intermedia
ODDSET Germany Sportwetten
Oddsline Entertainment
Personal Exchange International
Primebet International
RULEO Alpine Country
Racebets International Gaming
Star Sportwetten

This long-running story may have a way to go yet; several industry observers have predicted that companies whose applications were rejected – some of which had previously been accepted by the maverick Schleswig-Holstein licensing regime – will almost certainly be considering legal action.
