Illinois AG and fantasy sporst firms agree court schedule

News on 30 Dec 2015

Daily fantasy sports companies DraftKings and FanDuel, which have filed litigation against an opinion by the Massachusetts Attorney General that DFS is illegal gambling (see previous report), have reportedly agreed a fast-tracked court schedule with that office.

A report in the publication Canadian Business reveals that the deal took place early this week and was filed Tuesday, and that AG Lisa Madigan agreed to an “expedited” court schedule and a bench trial.

This will involve Madigan responding to the DFS complaints by January 22, followed by completion of any discovery processes by April 28 and a possible trial late in June next year

Announcing the deal, DraftKings legal representative Randy Mastro expressed confidence that his client will win any court action.

Importantly, the truce allows FanDuel and DraftKings to continue to offer their products to the public in the interim.

The Massachusetts House presently has before it a bill authored by Rep. Mike Zalewski which seeks to legalise and regulate daily fantasy sports in the state.
