Japanese prosecutors move against online gambling ring

Local media reports from the Japanese prefecture of Saitama near Tokyo revealed this week that prosecutors have decided to issue indictments against five individuals who were allegedly among seven persons managing an illegal internet casino gambling ring and rather cheekily using the titles of top Macau land operators (Lisboa and Venetian).

Investigations into the operation of four illegal online casinos were launched following a public tip-off three years ago.

The enquiries ultimately led to the network being dismantled by police in May this year with seven men arrested.

It is not clear why only five of those originally detained are the subject of indictments.
