Kenyan firm sues Asian betting company over ‘Dafabet’ brand

News on 24 Jul 2017

Dafabet Kenya Limited, an indoor sports spaces design enterprise, has launched litigation against Asia Betting and Gaming Enterprises, alleging that the latter’s use of the brand Dafabet in its illegal offering of betting facilities to Kenyan punters is creating confusion around the brand.

Dafabet Kenya is not involved in betting and gambling, and has had to turn away punters wishing to place wagers through the Dafabet brand.

“The defendant is involved in sports betting and gaming activities for gain and is currently unlawfully, illegally and wrongfully carrying out the same in Kenya under the plaintiff’s name, Dafabet Kenya,” the Dafabet Kenya court filing claims.

“Defendant’s illegal use of the plaintiff’s name Dafabet Kenya not only confuses the plaintiff’s clients but exposes the plaintiff to third-party claims that may arise from the defendant’s illegal acts.”

The filing appeals to the court to stop Asia Betting and Gaming from using the Dafabet brand in Kenya.
