Macau’s May numbers lower than expected

The Macau gambling authorities have released figures for May 2014 which show that the island betting mecca delivered revenues below analyst expectations, although the numbers were still impressive in global terms.

Macau operators generated 32.35 billion patacas ($4.05 billion) in gambling revenues, boosted by robust demand from Chinese visitors, reports the Reuters news agency.

Revenue growth was 9.3 percent, somewhat lower than analyst expectations of 13 to 15 percent.

Annual revenues reached a record $45 billion in 2013, elevating the tiny territory high above rival gaming destinations.
