Never say die Malaysian internet casino operator hammered again

News on 22 May 2012

Operating an internet gambling shop in Malaysia’s heavily enforced anti-gambling environment is a risky venture at the best of times; reopening in the same location after a police raid is just asking for trouble, as an unnamed operator found to his cost over the weekend.

Just weeks after being prosecuted – and losing valuable computer equipment to police confiscation – the Taman Seri Sentosa operator re-equipped his venue and was in business again, offering live dealer action via the internet.

It wasn’t for long; the police appear to have been monitoring the premises and mounted another raid, again seizing a large amount of expensive computer equipment

Kuala Lumpur anti-vice, gaming and secret societies staff officer Deputy Superintendent Azman Mohd Isa said the premises offered a live “casino” telecast from a centre in the Philippines through computers and allowed customers to place bets in real time.

“It was like betting in a real casino, only that it was via a computer,” the police official told reporters from the New Straits Times.
