Michigan senator still optimistic on internet gambling legalisation

Whilst most US eyes are on the resumption of the online gambling legalisation discussion in Pennsylvania tomorrow (Wednesday), Senator Mike Kowalls in Michigan reminds observers that Michigan is still very much in the running for the position of fourth US state to legalise online gambling.

This week Kowall assured local media that there was still ample time in November and December for him to further progress his legalisation bill, which last moved in the state Senate when it was approved through the Senate Regulatory Reform Committee in June this year.

Kowall revealed that lawmakers would hold a meeting this week before hammering out a final plan in November in the hope of at last bringing to fruition a three-year initiative on legalisation.

In 2014 the state launched online lottery activity, including some instant games.

Kowall has previously pointed out that intrastate online gambling legalisation has the potential to boost state tax resources. The state currently has three land casinos in Detroit, along with 23 tribal casinos which in total generate revenue of almost $3 billion annually.
